Situated in the northeast part of St Austell Bay, this south-facing beach is wide and gently sloping.
The sand is coarse and mainly comprised of quartz and mica.
The western extent is bounded by the mouth of the Par River in a maintained channel, and then industrial works. To the east it is bounded by the Polmear Stream with rock placed to maintain its course.
The dunes are low. There is a higher ridge behind, bounded by the road, with some steeper exposed sand dunes but also gorse. There is a depression between the main sand dunes and the back ridge.
Behind the back ridge and road is a lake and static caravans.
A link to the Par Sands page on the 'Let's Talk Cornwall' website will appear here in due course.
