The northernmost of our sites, at Bude, on the north east coast of Cornwall.
This beach is west facing and separated from Summerleaze Beach, to the south, by a promontory with maritime grassland.
There is very little dune present. It is mainly in patches around the promenade and car park. There is some exposed dune on the right bank of the Crooklets Stream but the top is developed for amenity purposes.
The top of the beach is highly armoured with cobbles banked up over sand. The sand is soft but with more slatey fragments than at Summerleaze Beach, next door.
There is active erosion and WW2 tank trap blocks are being used as protection where the promenade has collapsed.
A link to the Crooklets page on the 'Let's Talk Cornwall' website will appear here in due course.
This is a Cornwall Council led project, funded wholly by Defra.
